12 AVIM Holiday at the Homestead : Antelope Valley Indian Museum shall host the 2nd Annual Holidays at the Homestead on Saturday evening 15 December 2012. The chili cook-off and holiday fest on Paiute Butte in Lake Los Angeles has been revived from times past . Holiday themed and Native items shall also be available. This year Cowboy performer Michael Tcherkassky shall be bringing his folk pastime to life under the stars. Michael is also known as the Saddle Serenader and has performed cowboy songs at the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival and other events around the country. Howard Arden Edwards artist and professional set designer built the Indian Museum to house his collection of Indian artifacts , and designed the Craftsman style building with colorful representations of Indian culture and creative hand made furniture. Howard's wife Rose was known for her chili and cornbread feasts at their 1930's holiday celebration. Her tradition returns with the Indian Museums chili cook-off. It was a grand gathering with spectacular vistas amid the coastal range as a winter storm enhanced the days interactions. 12CSULBPowWow : Part of the agreement for the use of the land for a college, the ancient Tongva village of Puvunga became what is now California State University Long Beach, as long as the Garden remains....a garden. The Garden at the University, the Burial Grounds for Puvunga was a place of contention when the Regents tried to turn the Garden into a business strip center. Due to the efforts of many in the Native community including elder Lillian Robles, the Garden remains the garden. Last year, the Student Native American group began to call the pow wow, the Puvunga State University Pow Wow. This year we begin the 2012 Pow Wow Season with the 42nd annual Native American gathering at Calif State(Puvunga) University Long Beach. During the current economic challege, we were grateful to see so many visitors and many of our friends, many of whom we have not seen in many years. Our booth became a place of gathering , as usual..........

Haramonkgna Station Fire09 : The Station Fire swept thru the Angeles Forest destroying almost everthing in its path. Haramonkgna was spared thou the fire devastated everything right up to and including melting the metal fence adjacent to Haramonkgnas buildings. The firefighters used Haramonkgna as a staging point for their efforts and as a place of rest. At times they fought the fires from the roofs of Haramonkgnas buildings. Many gracious thanks to the Forest Service and the firefighters for all their efforts.....

Southwest Museum Native Artshow 05 : The last Art Show at the Soutwest Museum was held in 2005. Until the Southwest Museum in Pasadena is retrofitted for earthquake considerations, the annual Art Show shall take place at the Autry Museum at Griffith Park. The Southwest Museum was built in the early 1900's.
