Part of the agreement for the use of the land for a college, the ancient Tongva village of Puvunga became what is now California State University Long Beach, as long as the Garden remains....a garden. The Garden at the University, the Burial Grounds for Puvunga was a place of contention when the Regents tried to turn the Garden into a business strip center. Due to the efforts of many in the Native community including elder Lillian Robles, the Garden remains the garden. Last year, the Student Native American group began to call the pow wow, the Puvunga State University Pow Wow. This year we begin the 2012 Pow Wow Season with the 42nd annual Native American gathering at Calif State(Puvunga) University Long Beach. During the current economic challege, we were grateful to see so many visitors and many of our friends, many of whom we have not seen in many years. Our booth became a place of gathering , as usual..........
